Summary Description:
BB&N is seeking an Upper School Spanish Teacher for a one-year leave. We are seeking a knowledgeable Spanish Teacher whose primary responsibilities will include teaching various levels of Spanish courses. Specific course assignments will depend on prior experience and the needs of the Spanish Department. Additional responsibilities include collaborating closely with colleagues in the Spanish Program and attending regular meetings of the World Languages Department.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Key functions for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Plans and develops an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and curriculum guidelines.
- Prepares materials for lessons, assignments, tests, and projects; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance.
- Supervises the behavior of students in the classroom, school grounds, and educational trips, and discusses academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students as they arise.
- Monitors students' progress throughout the year.
- Communicates progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or Campus Director.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents, students, and colleagues.
- Enforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.
- Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
- Monitors halls, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staff.
- Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars.
- Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices.
- Performs related tasks such as sponsoring student activities or organizations, including athletics.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements, Skills, and Competencies:
The BB&N World Languages Department prioritizes students' oral competency, a project-based learning environment, and the understanding that the strength of teaching world languages lies in the ability to offer students multiple perspectives and viewpoints. The strongest candidates will share these ideals.
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in Spanish language instruction, with a preference for native Spanish speakers or speakers with near-native fluency. A Bachelor's degree is required, and at least two years of full-time teaching experience is preferred. In addition, the candidate will demonstrate the following:
- Excellent oral and writing skills, both in English and Spanish.
- Ability to engage students to converse in Spanish in and out of class.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues.
- Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community.
- Understand and exhibit high standards of professional conduct.
- Create a dynamic and engaging classroom experience for students.
- Offer a wide range of opportunities for learning in the classroom (small group work, full-class discussion, presentations, etc.).
- Demonstrate agility in adjusting teaching approaches to best support the critical thinking, speaking, writing, and creativity of all students.
- Build students’ confidence in their independent ability to engage fully in the Spanish language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world.
- Work effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
- Seek collaboration with a team of colleagues within the Spanish and wider World Languages Department and with teachers in other disciplines.
- Value advancing students’ knowledge and affirmation of themselves and others.
- Integrate our School’s mission, values, and DEIG commitments into their teaching practices.
- Commit to working in and fostering an inclusive community by advancing the efforts of anti-racism and equity in their classes and the broader community.
Salary: $69,500.00 - $101,701.00
BB&N offers competitive salaries and benefits, employing equitable and consistent compensation practices. The starting salary for any hired candidate is based on experience within salary bands.
Compensation for eligible full-time and part-time employees includes a 403(b) plan with up to a 10% match of salary and other competitive benefits offerings. Benefits offered to eligible employees include health & dental insurance; commuter benefits; long-term disability insurance, and more.
