The Brimmer and May School, an all-gender Pre-K- Grade 12 day school in Chestnut Hill, MA is seeking a full-time Lower School music teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The position includes teaching Pre-Kindergarten through Grade Five General Music, two choruses and two beginning bands.
Specific Duties/Responsibilities: - Plan and teach weekly general music classes for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade Five - Plan and conduct one choral rehearsal per week for Grades Two and Three, and one choral rehearsal for Grades Four and Five - Plan and conduct one beginning band rehearsal per week for Grade Three, and one intermediate band rehearsal per week for Grades Four and Five - Prepare students for annual exhibitions and performances - Assist with Friday Share Assemblies - Work collaboratively with Lower School Creative Arts team, Music Department colleagues, and with other faculty members - Help foster a positive working and educational environment for students and colleagues and support the school’s mission, vision, and values - Work to support students outside of classroom time as needed
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in music education required; master’s degree preferred - 3+ years of experience - Piano accompaniment skills - Orff-Schulwerk and/or Kodály Certification is preferred - A commitment to teaching fundamental skills in music writing, reading, and composition is essential, as is a desire to work collaboratively with the creative arts team and faculty - A passion for working with young learners, a sense of humor, and a positive attitude are essential
